Our Favorite Eco-Friendly Laundry Soaps
The laundry game in our house is serious. I wash at least 1-2 small loads a day of our clothes and towels, especially since we started Baby-Led Weaning which involves Onyx smearing her food all over herself as she eats, meaning we wash up to 3 outfits a day sometimes.
I also made a switch a while back to re-usable wipes (post about that coming soon!) and my biggest source of stress for it was having to wash everything, and make sure they are washed well enough that there is no contamination - and sorry to get dirty here, but NO poop stains for future use!
We have used local organic products, free/clear laundry detergents from the store, making our own, soap nuts, etc...
White shirts always still had the same spots and stains after washing (but smelled clean!). If Onyx got a stain on her shirt, it faded but stayed after washing.
Here are our favorite laundry soaps, with the last being our daily go-to!
1. Mirror Lake Organics Laundry Soap
Made locally where we live in Michigan and made with organic essential oils in small batches, this is great for everyday laundry use.
From the Mirror Lake site:
"Our Lavender Lime scented plant-based laundry soap is NOT detergent it is soap made from certified organic plant oils with aloe vera for sensitive skin. Safe for your family, the environment and your septic tank. A non-toxic laundry soap that is certified cruelty free by Leaping Bunny. Just 100% Mother Nature. No synthetic preservatives. No sodium laurel sulfate. No ridiculous chemicals. No optical brighteners. No petrochemicals. No formaldehyde. No fragrances. No dioxanes. No GMOs. No dyes. 64 HE Loads, 22 cents a load. 32 Standard Loads. 64 fl oz, 1892 ml. For use in all machines. Biodegradable.
Ingredients: Purified water, saponified organic coconut oil, sodium carbonate, organic aloe vera, sea salt, pure organic lavender and lime essential oils."
2. Mama Bear Laundry Detergent
I used this when Onyx was first born because it was free of dyes, phthalates, and artifical fragrance and is good for sensitive skin. However, I would be aware there is almond oil in it if you are worried about early nut exposure.

3. DoTerra OnGuard Laundry Detergent
If I had awards for this, this would be the award winner. I loved this soap and the house cleaner so much, I even joined DoTerra as a rep after using it for a few months! We use reusable wipes, and you've got to have some good cleaning regimens to keep them clean and sanitary. I was pretty worried about how the stains would come out. With DoTerra detergent we get all kinds of food and baby messes out of literally everything! There is no lingering scent and everything actually gets clean!
From the DoTerra site:
• Surfactants, enzymes, and stabilizers from sustainable natural-based sources (not petrochemical)
• Unique, natural-based bio-originated enzyme blend
• Unique formulation maximizes essential oil aroma and efficacy—tough on stains and dirt, but low surfactant/enzyme aroma allows full aromatic potential of dōTERRA On Guard essential oil blend
